Healthcare workers in California who work a 12-hour shift can forgo their second meal break and leave work a half hour sooner. The decision, handed down by the California Supreme Court last week, ended a lawsuit that was into its eleventh year.
The class action suit was filed in 2008 by workers at the Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center who argued that the order by the California Industrial Welfare Commission violated state labor code meal and rest break requirements by setting policy aimed specifically at healthcare workers.
