Today’s HR Issues and Challenges for AF Chapters

  • Date: October 21, 2022 7:00 am – 8:00 am

The Federation of Alliances Françaises USA 2022 Annual Meeting and Convention will be held from October 20-22 in Detroit. The convention offers a full slate of workshops, panels, and opportunities to network.

Cook Brown Partner Barbara Cotter will give a workshop at the convention on October 21st on today’s HR issues and challenges.

Managing HR issues is one of the most challenging areas for AF administrators. A small gotcha can sometimes lead to big and uncomfortable problems. This session will cover some of the most important do’s and don’ts in the HR arena. Led by an HR lawyer and an AF director with extensive HR experience, the session will cover the latest issues (and evolving views on longstanding issues) and how to best deal with them. We’ll pull from the attendees’ pre-submitted questions, which will touch on these subjects and others: a deeper understanding of the importance of having the appropriate classifications of workers (employee versus independent contractor), the distinctions between exempt versus nonexempt, minimum handbook requirements and why, considerations when hiring from out-of-state or from abroad, benefits programs, what paperwork best practices can help you in the event of an HR audit, and more.
