GENERAL PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Dennis B. Cook is a partner in the Sacramento office of Cook Brown, LLP. He specializes in representing management in all aspects of labor relations and employment law. Mr. Cook worked with the Illinois Department of Labor and the San Francisco office of the National Labor Relations Board before entering into private practice in 1981. While active in litigating labor matters before the National Labor Relations Board, Mr. Cook also represents management in federal and state courts in employment litigation. He is a frequent guest lecturer on employment law topics such as sexual harassment and substance abuse policies, and teaches at California State University, Sacramento.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Between 1975 and 1979, Mr. Cook worked in three separate divisions at the Illinois Department of Labor. He was a Hearing Officer with the Wage Claim Division, an Investigator with the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and an Administrative Assistant specializing in OSHA matters with the Industrial Welfare Commission. Mr. Cook served as Field Attorney with the National Labor Relations Board in San Francisco for nearly two years. He co-authored the article, “Civil Rights for the Disabled Worker: The Americans With Disabilities Act,” published in the Labor and Employment Law Quarterly of the California State Bar.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Mr. Cook received his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in journalism from the University of Southern California and graduated from Loyola University School of Law in Chicago.

PROFESSIONAL AND BUSINESS AFFILIATIONS

Mr. Cook is a member of the American Bar Association, the California Bar Association, and the Sacramento County Bar Association. He is also active in the Labor and Employment Sections of the State Bar and County Bar. Mr. Cook serves on the boards of the California Employer Advisor, the Sacramento Area YMCA and The Employers Group, and is general counsel for the Sacramento office of the Construction Industry Crime Prevention Program.

Mr. Cook is licensed to practice before all courts in California and Illinois, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California federal district courts.
