GENERAL PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Ronald W. Brown is a partner in the Sacramento office of Cook Brown, LLP. Mr. Brown’s practice encompasses all labor and employment issues including National Labor Relations Board elections and unfair labor practices, federal and state court injunctions for unlawful picketing and strike activity, state and federal wage and hour matters, collective bargaining negotiations, multi-employer trust funds matters, discrimination complaints and wrongful termination litigation.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Mr. Brown spent seven years as Director of Labor Relations with the Defense Language Institute, a federal agency with over 1,000 employees. His responsibilities included collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, unfair labor practice hearings and wage and hour investigations while managing his own employees. He also handled all employee discipline matters from initial investigation and notice of adverse action in Skelly-related hearings and appeals. While in law school, he also clerked with Board Member John McCarthy with the Agricultural Labor Relations Board. Mr. Brown has argued several cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Court of Appeal.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Mr. Brown graduated “With Distinction” from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law in 1982 and was named to the Order of the Coif. He received the American Jurisprudence Award and the Robert Driscoll Award for Labor Law Scholarship, and was a member of the Traynor Honor Society. Mr. Brown obtained his B.A. degree from California State University, Sacramento.

PROFESSIONAL AND BUSINESS AFFILIATIONS

Mr. Brown is a member of the California State Bar Labor Section, the American Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section, the Sacramento County Bar Association, and the Industrial Relations Association of Northern California. He serves as general counsel for the California Independent Grocers Association and has also served on the Board of Directors of the 'Tierra Del Oro Girl Scouts Council.

Mr. Brown is licensed to practice before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Central and Northern Districts of California and all courts of the State of California.
