GENERAL PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Brian D. Bertossa is a partner in the Sacramento office of Cook Brown, LLP. He represents management in all aspects of labor and employment law, and also practices construction law. His practice includes preventative advice to employers and defense of wrongful termination, employment discrimination and sex harassment suits in state and federal courts, and defense of claims before the California Labor Commissioner and the courts. He also represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board and in arbitrations conducted under the requirements of collective bargaining agreements. Mr. Bertossa’s construction practice includes all aspects of mechanic’s lien, stop notice and construction claim actions, and prevailing wage issues on state and federal public works. He has published articles and given seminars on various issues of interest to employers, including sexual harassment, implementation of substance abuse policies, protection of trade secrets, overtime issues interpretation of California Wage Orders, the state and federal Family Leave Acts, and public works/prevailing wage issues.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Bertossa received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and received his law degree from Santa Clara University, where he was a Technical Editor of the Santa Clara Computer and High Technology Law Journal. He has practiced labor and employment law since 1988 and has been with Cook Brown, LLP since 1990. He taught Labor and Employment Law in the Construction Management Program at California State University, Sacramento.
PROFESSIONAL AND BUSINESS AFFILIATIONS
Mr. Bertossa is a member of the American Bar Association, California Bar Association and Sacramento County Bar Association. He is a member of the Litigation and Labor and Employment sections of the State Bar. He is a Member of the Sacramento County Labor and Employment Section and a past member of the Section’s Executive Committee. Mr. Bertossa is also past chapter counsel for the Capitol City Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association.

Mr. Bertossa is licensed to practice before all courts in California. He is also licensed to practice before the Eastern and Northern District of California federal courts.
